Lord's Taverners - President’s Lunch
Lord’s Taverners President Sir Michael Parkinson was the host of a fantastic President’s Lunch in the Nursery Pavilion at Lord’s. Raising a total of £32,000, the event was a roaring success thanks to entertainment fromcomedian Rod Woodward and Sir Michael’s guest on stage, Piers Morgan.
As an uncompromising former Daily Mirror editor and international showbiz personality it was fascinating to see Piers Morgan receive an in-depth grilling by the British chat-show doyen and Lord’s Taverners President. A particular highlight of the interview came during theopening exchanges in which Piers was shown footage from during the 2013/14 Ashes where former Australian speedster, Brett Lee, didn’t hold back when bowling a rapid over at him in front of a large crowd. If you are yet to witness it, it makes for painful viewing!
Many thanks are also extended to Sam Alderson, captain of the Bexley Disability Cricket team. His appearance on stage, alongside event host Chris Cowdrey, provided a wonderful insight into the work of the Lord’s Taverners through the LTDCC programme and living with a raregenetic disorder, TAR syndrome.
It was an afternoon of fantastic entertainment and a beer reception courtesy of Shepherd Neame at the home of cricket, and funds raised will go a long way to giving more young disadvantaged and disabled people a sporting chance.
