The Nat King Cole Songbook - Mr Unforgettable
With his amazing skill on the piano and effortlessly smooth audiences each week with his soulful voice, Andy went on to voice, Nat King Cole held the world’s ear for three decades finish second in the hotly contested final (a vote of just 1.2% and his legacy of poignant, sentimental, playful tunes separated first and second place!), but where he finished
continues today.
Born Nathaniel Adams Coles in Montgomery, Alabama on 17 March 1919, Cole had humble origins. Like so many families in the Deep South at the time, the Cole family were very poor and struggled to make ends meet.
Despite the everyday battle to survive, music was important to the Coles and Nat was taught to play the organ and piano from the age of four by his mother. Nat’s natural musical ability was evident even from this early age and while his first brush with music was with Gospel, it was just a matter of time before this young boy from the Yellowhammer State was influenced by the emerging New Orleans jazz sound.
Nat’s musical career began when, in 1936, after dropping out of school aged just fifteen, he found a position as a pianist in Shuffle Along – a jazz review. While enjoying some success, Shuffle Along soon came to an end, but by this time Nat had been bitten by the performing bug.
Following a period playing solo in the bars and clubs of California, Nat formed what was to become the King Cole Trio. The year was 1937. The King Cole Trio went on to record four albums from 1943 to 1949, including hits such as Sweet Lorraine, I’m in the Mood for Love and If I Had You.
Nat’s smooth baritone has been enjoyed by audiences for 80 years and in 2017 music lovers can see Nat’s biggest hits brought to life once again through the sweet, soul stylings of Britain’s very own Andy Abraham.
Platinum-selling recording artist, Andy first caught the nation’s attention when he took part in The X Factor in 2005. Wowing
didn’t really matter – the nation was hooked – Andy Abraham was a star!
Andy’s career has gone from strength to strength, seeing him perform around the world, record four critically acclaimed albums and embark on a successful career in musical theatre.
This year marks the launch of Andy’s latest show – The Nat King Cole Songbook. With his warm, smooth voice, Andy is the perfect vocalist to take on the Nat King Cole back catalogue. Reinterpreting many of the classics, following a brief intermission, Andy will step back into the spotlight to perform a selection of upbeat soul classics.
The perfect show for music fans of all ages, Andy’s new show is set to be popular with holiday villages and cruises though it makes a great addition to all kinds of gatherings, including corporate events and casino tours.
